This last half term, children and young people have enjoyed our calming, playful and confidence-boosting aerial sessions designed especially for those with SEND.
Led by Miss Olivia and funded by the Mencap Active Community Fund, the sessions provided a safe, welcoming space for children to explore movement, sensory input and relaxation at their own pace.
Using low aerial hoops and supportive fabric hammocks, children enjoyed:
🌀 Swinging, rocking and spinning
🌿 Curling up and relaxing in cosy cocoons
⭕ Sitting, perching and gently hanging from the hoop
✨ Exploring new shapes and movements in the air
The hammock offers soothing wrapping, gentle movement and deep pressure for calming sensory input, while the aerial hoop supports body awareness, balance, coordination and confidence through supported aerial play.
The sessions help support:
💜 Emotional and sensory regulation
💙 Vestibular and proprioceptive input
💚 Balance and body awareness
🧡 Relaxation, focus and calm
⭐ Confidence and self-esteem
Most importantly, every child has been encouraged to move in their own way and at their own pace — with no pressure, no competition, just supportive exploration and fun.
We are incredibly proud to offer these sessions thanks to funding from the Mencap Active Community Fund.
