A Wonderful Day at Sensory Hive

We spent a fantastic day at Sensory Hive, enjoying three private hire sessions so our families could relax, explore, and play at their own pace. It was a brilliant opportunity for children and young people of all ages to experience a wide range of sensory activities in a calm, supportive environment.

Across the day, families got to enjoy the amazing equipment in the main sensory gym, including:

  • rebound trampoline
  • swings and slide
  • padded stairs and ramp
  • bumps and rope pull
  • scooter board and ramp
  • zip-line and swinging platform bridge
  • basketball and hoop
  • balance board and balance domes
  • monkey bars
  • snug with galaxy lights
  • mini parkour area

Above the sensory gym, the Mezzanine offered a quieter exploration space for all ages. This included:

  • educational toys and role-play equipment
  • tent and cosy spaces
  • multi-functional lighting and aurora-style effects
  • tactile walls and floor tiles
  • reading corner with sensory lighting and canopy
  • chalkboard wall

Everything has clearly been chosen with care to support both physical and cognitive development, while still keeping the focus firmly on fun.

One of the biggest highlights of the day was Sorcha’s Sanctuary – a fully immersive, interactive multi-sensory room. Families loved exploring projected environments that changed with movement and gestures, with options for calming or more stimulating experiences. The space also included bubble tubes, fibre optics, infinity mirrors, vibrating mats, interactive surfaces, adjustable lighting and sound, and specialist equipment so that children of all abilities could join in fully and comfortably.

We were also incredibly well looked after by the lovely team on site. Everyone enjoyed a tasty meal from the Honey Pot Café, which kept energy levels up for all that play and exploration. The staff throughout the day were warm, supportive, and welcoming, making the whole experience even better.

Most importantly, the relaxed atmosphere meant families could take things at their own pace — climbing, bouncing, chilling, exploring, or simply enjoying time together.

A huge thank you to HAF – funded by the Department for Education and St Helens Council for supporting this brilliant visit, and to the wonderful staff at Sensory Hive for hosting us so beautifully. We had an amazing day and can’t wait to return 🌟
