A Brilliant Day at the Panto: Dick Whittington

What a day! A group of 125 of us headed to St Helens Theatre Royal to watch the fantastic production of Dick Whittington, and it was everything we love about panto season and more.

From the moment the curtain went up, the theatre was bursting with laughter, music, and plenty of classic panto moments — “oh yes it is!” and “he’s behind you!” included. The colourful costumes, catchy songs, and brilliant cast had both children and adults completely hooked.

We were truly part of the action too! We all got soaked by the water guns, were showered with “rat poo”, and loved every silly second of it. The incredible 3D section was another huge highlight — as the boat sank to the bottom of the sea, we were surrounded by amazing under-the-ocean effects and all sorts of sea life floating around us. There were squeals, giggles, and lots of wide-eyed faces!

The cast were outstanding throughout, with Lewis Devine as Idle Jack keeping everyone laughing from start to finish, and Timothy Lucas as the villainous King Rat playing the perfect baddie that everyone loved to boo. They were both amazing and a massive hit with our families.

It was especially lovely to see our families relaxing and enjoying the show together in such a welcoming environment. The atmosphere in the theatre was warm and inclusive, and the staff were friendly and supportive throughout, helping make the visit smooth and enjoyable for everyone.

Trips like this aren’t just about a show — they’re about shared experiences, confidence-building, and making happy memories. Watching the children’s faces light up with excitement (and a bit of panto mischief!) was a real highlight of the day.

A huge thank you to St Helens Theatre Royal and the wonderful cast and team behind Dick Whittington for giving our families such a magical experience. We had an amazing time and can’t wait for our next adventure 🎉🌟
