Our families recently enjoyed a wonderfully festive trip to Santa’s Christmas Party, a joyful family concert held at the iconic home of the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra. With only a few sleeps to go until Christmas, the timing couldn’t have been more perfect for getting into the festive spirit.
From the moment the concert began, the atmosphere was buzzing with excitement. Presented by the ever-engaging Alasdair Malloy and conducted by Ellie Slorach, the performance was packed with seasonal cheer, laughter, and energy. The orchestra was joined by the Liverpool Philharmonic Children’s Choirs, whose voices added an extra layer of magic to an already sparkling soundtrack.
Designed especially for children aged 5–10 (though enjoyed by the whole family!), the one-hour concert struck a brilliant balance between music and interaction. There were festive singalongs, opportunities to move and dance along, and plenty of playful moments that kept children engaged throughout — all without the pressure of sitting still.
We were especially pleased to see how accessible and welcoming the concert was. With Kate Labno providing BSL interpretation, families were able to enjoy the performance in a way that felt inclusive and thoughtful. The relaxed, family-friendly environment made it easier for children to enjoy the music in their own way, which was greatly appreciated by our SEND families.
Santa may have been throwing a party for his elves, but it truly felt like everyone in the audience was part of the celebration. It was a fantastic way to experience live music together and create festive memories as a group.
A huge thank you to the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic team for delivering such a joyful, inclusive, and memorable family concert. It was the perfect musical countdown to Christmas 🎄✨
