A Magical Afternoon on the Santa Express at East Lancashire Railway, Bury

What a truly unforgettable afternoon we had aboard the Santa Express at the East Lancashire Railway in Bury! Our group had the pleasure of booking the entire train, and every moment was filled with festive cheer and joy.

The magic began even before we boarded, with Christmas characters greeting us on the platform. From jolly elves to festive snowmen, the atmosphere was brimming with holiday spirit, setting the perfect tone for our journey. The children were delighted as they posed for photos and interacted with the lively characters, adding extra excitement to the occasion.

As we boarded the train, the enchantment continued. The highlight of the day was undoubtedly meeting Santa himself! Santa and his friendly helpers made their way through the carriages, greeting every child with warmth and kindness. Each child was presented with a gift, adding an extra sparkle to their eyes.

Along the way, we were treated to live entertainment, with a talented brass band filling the air with joyful Christmas tunes. The melodies of festive classics resonated through the train, creating the perfect soundtrack for our holiday adventure.

Adding to the magic was a charming Christmas poet, who recited delightful verses that captured the essence of the season. And of course, the enchanting Christmas fairy, who spread joy by gifting each child a special bell. The bell was a token of kindness, encouraging everyone to ring it whenever they saw someone doing something kind — a lovely way to spread goodwill and teach the true spirit of Christmas.

The children were also treated to a refreshing drink and a packet of chocolate coins, while the adults enjoyed a mince pie and a small bottle of Baileys — the perfect festive indulgence.

The whole afternoon was filled with laughter, smiles, and cherished memories. We couldn’t have asked for a more magical way to kick off the holiday season. From the festive atmosphere to the wonderful entertainment, it truly was a day to remember, and one that our group will treasure for years to come. Thank you to the East Lancashire Railway for providing such a delightful and heartwarming experience.
