On Saturday afternoon at The Lowry Theatre, we were treated to a magical performance of Zog Live, bringing to life the much-loved story by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler. This joyful and heartwarming musical captured the imagination of children and adults alike from start to finish.
Set in Madam Dragon’s school, the story follows Zog, an enthusiastic young dragon who is determined to be the very best in his class. While his eagerness is undeniable, his journey is far from smooth—Zog is also wonderfully accident-prone, often finding himself tangled in trees or even setting his own wing on fire during lessons.
But Zog’s story isn’t just about mishaps and mayhem. Along the way, he is helped by a kind and caring girl who patches up his bumps and bruises, offering encouragement when he needs it most. As the challenges grow bigger, so does Zog’s determination. With her support, he faces his toughest test yet in the hope of finally earning that all-important golden star.
Filled with catchy songs, vibrant staging, and charming puppetry, the production brings this classic tale to roaring, soaring life on stage. Beneath the humour and fun, the story gently explores themes of perseverance, friendship, and finding confidence in yourself—messages that resonate with audiences of all ages.
Zog Live is a delightful theatrical experience that leaves audiences smiling, proving that sometimes, being the keenest doesn’t mean being perfect—it just means never giving up.
