On a beautifully crisp winter evening, around 50 members of our families wrapped up warm and joined us for a truly enchanting visit to Dunham Massey’s Christmas Lights Trail. Although the temperature was bitterly cold, the gardens were glowing with colour, sparkle and festive magic — creating the perfect backdrop for a memorable night together.
As soon as we entered the trail, we were welcomed by twinkling lights, gentle music and the peaceful feeling that Dunham Massey always brings. Families wandered along the illuminated pathways, stopping often to take in each display — from trees covered in shimmering lights to glowing tunnels, reflections on the water and bursts of festive colour around every corner.
For many of our families who have children with SEND, finding accessible, calm and joyful experiences can sometimes be challenging. Even so, the trail offered a wonderful balance of sensory moments and quiet spaces, allowing children to explore at their own pace. We saw so many little faces light up (sometimes even more than the displays!) as they spotted something exciting, followed the beams of light or simply enjoyed being outdoors in such a magical setting.
Parents and carers shared that they loved having the chance to enjoy a festive family night without pressure or expectations — just time together, making memories, taking photos, and soaking up the atmosphere. Lots of laughter, plenty of rosy cheeks, and more than a few hot chocolates helped keep everyone warm along the way!
It was also lovely to see families chatting, supporting one another and connecting throughout the evening. Events like these remind us how strong, caring and uplifting our community is. Even on the coldest nights, our families bring the warmth.
